Summary
Use a range of telescopes and navigation tools to search for binary systems, planets, nebulae and galaxies.
Narrative
What is Gomtuu? A living creature that functions as a space vessel! This creature was born in a space in a far away galaxy and spent thousands of years travelling the Universe, sometimes with other species using it as a spaceship. Search amongst the stars and planets visible in the night sky tonight and see if you can spot Gomtuu as they sail past.
Mission Outcomes
By completing this activity, you can show your Unit Council that you can:
STEM | Astronomy:
- Identify different features of telescopes
- Set up and focus a telescope
- Locate objects in the celestial sphere using different technologies
- I can identify the Southern Cross in the night's sky and then find South (OAS Level 3 Bushcraft)
- I can identify three other constellations (excluding the Southern Cross) in the night's sky (OAS Level 3 Bushcraft)
